Emotional Intelligence - “the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships”. Daniel Goleman
It is generally said to include three skills
1. Emotional awareness, including the ability to identify your own emotions and those of others;
2. The ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problems solving;
3. The ability to manage emotions, including the ability to regulate your own emotions, and the ability to cheer up or calm down another person.
How is this concept important for managers and growing businesses?Some of the most important aspects of emotional intelligence for leaders to make effective decisions are self-awareness, self-confidence, self-control, commitment and integrity, and the ability to listen, communicate, influence and accept change.
Managers who do not develop emotional intelligence have difficulty in building good relationships with peers, subordinates, superiors, and clients.

What comes to your mind about EI?

Thank you for your post! Actually, I'm aware of recognizing my feelings and other people's, but I still believe emotional intelligence is my unresolved matter, as I cannot always understand other people's attitudes. What about you?
ReplyDeleteI tend to be very emotional with the people I most care about. It´s very hard for me to ignore when someone feels sad or stressed about something important. Somehow I need more practice on EI.
DeleteI think the best thing we can do to be emotionally intelligent is to practice more "listening" and less "talking" so that we can actually be aware of our thoughts and emotions. If we really control ourselves we will act intelligently.
ReplyDeleteA few months ago I took an online course in Spanish about the EI about work, it is very interesting and useful because to know this help us to control ourselves with our feelings and it helps us to keep our job, sometimes we haven the wrong feeling in the wrong moment.
ReplyDeleteI can see that it is very important to develop emotional intelligence to share with others a good environment, for instance at work, in order to be able to communicate properly and understand the necessity of others.
